Working with an Interior Designer

February 3rd, 2012

What does an Interior Designer do?

“Interior designers have an artist’s aesthetic sensibility, an engineer’s attention to detail and code compliance and a business executive’s focus on the bottom line.”

“Interior design is a multi-faceted profession in which creative and technical solutions are applied within a structure to achieve a built interior environment. These solutions are functional, enhance the quality of life and culture of the occupants and are aesthetically attractive. Designs are created in response to and coordinated with the building shell and acknowledge the physical location and social context of the project. Designs must adhere to code and regulatory requirements, and encourage the principles of environmental sustainability. The interior design process follows a systematic and coordinated methodology, including research, analysis and integration of knowledge into the creative process, whereby the needs and resources of the client are satisfied to produce an interior space that fulfills the project goals.

Interior design includes a scope of services performed by a professional design practitioner, qualified by means of education, experience and examination, to protect and enhance the health, life safety and welfare of the public.”

I heart Funky Floral

July 30th, 2010

I came across this quirky designer from Los Angeles. Marguerite Inman, working under the title Velvet Spade Designs, creates witty narrative scenes by blending plants with unexpected vintage and new materials. With titles such as “Drinkin Buddies” “Monkey Mist” and “What the Buck” these plant sculptures are instant conversation starters.

Lonestar

After a few years out of the biz,  I am working in Set Decorating again.  I am a buyer on the television show Lonestar, starring Jon Voight, slated to begin production in Dallas this month.  I am still working with my remodeling and design clients, and loving being busy!

Winter RED with RED iD Agency

by Joanna Cattanach

red

The inspirational Teresa Nguyen–she and her sister founded the Janan Collection and organization that helps Iraqi women–invited me and a few hundred other fabulous people to a winter RED Affair in Dallas with RED iD Agency last month. The crimson affair was hosted in the penthouse of  The Glass House in Dallas. Fabulous! Not only did it give me an excuse to wear my favorite new red dress–thank you Buffalo Exchange–I especially enjoyed the photo booth Teresa had set up for all of us. Check out some of the shots and keep your calendar open for RED iD’s next event, a boxing watch party!
